It should be walked slowly and enjoyed immensely....appreciate golf as it was meant to be!

How refreshing in this day of TV influenced golf, and the expectations that come with that, to find a throw back course tucked away on a peninsula on the rocky Maine coast that is simply a pleasure to step foot on. Old granite block raised tee boxes, rolling fairways, small greens, and scenery straight out of a story book!! This course has no frills that scream over management but instead brings you back to the days of when golf was young and it was about the game and not the stimp meter!!!

Play it...look around...enjoy the views of Acadia...notice the lobster boats at work...appreciate how hard it must have been to make this property into a golf course in the days of 'horse' power...think about the game as it was meant to be...ENJOY!!

Kevin, my compliments!

Old New England golf course with great views

If you are a golfer visiting the Schoodic Peninsula, do not miss Grindstone Neck Golf Club which is open to the public. Built in the 1890's it is a classic, rustic 9 holes, the way golf used to be before upscale amenities and pristine fairways. Most holes have stunning views of the harbor or Frenchmans Bay. The second hole plays down hill to a small green on the shore looking across the bay to the mountains on Mt. Desert Island. A view to rival Pebble Beach! ...

Great views!

One of the joys of playing golf is the beautiful scenery. Grindstone Neck Golf Course in Winter Harbor definitely has some beautiful views! My husband and I take our clubs and play wherever and whenever possible on our vacations (which will now be more frequent having retired). We chose Grindstone because of the proximity to Bar Harbor, one of our destinations on our first bucket list trip. ...

Grinding out some Golf in Winter Harbor, ME

This course has an amazing view and I don't think you'll struggle to find a tee time. A great way to pass some time when it is too cold to swim and you just need to get away from the family on that Maine vacation.
Inexpensive, moderate conditions and again- a view that is amazing and very unique. Give it a try- it is well worth it.

Some of the most scenic golf you will ever play.

Fairly unassuming course from when you first pull in and see the first fairway. The pro shop is small and simple, the staff courteous and helpful. Greens fees are reasonable. The views from the #2 green, #3 tee, #3 green, and #4 tee are some of the best in golf, anywhere at any price. You overlook the Mt. Desert narrows and then Mount Desert itself. You can see lobster boats coming and going getting their traps. Honestly, it's pretty hard to not be distracted by the scenery! The course plays well, has a much older feel to it. The fairways can be dry in spots and wet in others. The greens are in very good shape. Sand in the traps is a more coarse type you usually find in New England sand traps. In the half dozen times I've played here, I've never had to wait on any hole. Pace of play is pretty quick, playing 9 as a single took an hour and a half the last time. If you're in the area and you play golf you must give Grindstone Neck a try!

One of the hidden gems in Maine.

The greens are always in great shape. Old links golf feel. Some of the best views in Maine. Two of the most beautiful holes I've every played.

Enjoyable

Pretty cool, rustic track. Greens are pretty good, fairways play how they're meant to be. Views of the Schoodic waters are second to none. Go out there, walk, take in the sights and enjoy yourself. Bottom line.

A unique golf course that tests the participants ability to concentrate on the game when the surroundings are so breathtaking. I can remember standing in the middle of a fairway just stunned by the ocean views.

Best course in the area and among my top three favorites.

My husband really enjoys this course! Being a local in the Gouldboro/Winter Harbor area, its nice having a course close by.
